Turku goes underground – Pop up museum at the archaeological excavations at Katedralskolan

What on earth is going on underneath the floors of Katedralskolan School's gymnasium? New tours available soon – pre-booking starts June 5th at 8am.

The City of Turku will be offering a unique possibility to visit an archaeological excavation site and experience medieval Turku. The pop up museum “Turku goes Underground” will present remains of stone and brick houses from the 15th century. The ruins of the houses, which were destroyed in the Great Fire of Turku in 1827, have now been unearthed in connection with renovations of the gymnasium of the Katedralskolan School.

The pop up museum may only be visited in guided tours. Pre-bookings are open in the Lyyti web service. Guided tours are offered in English, Finnish and Swedish.

Guided tours in English are available

  • June 13th – July 15th: Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays at 3pm
  • June 26th – July 1st: daily tours at 3pm

Pre-bookings in the Lyyti web service. NB! Some of tours are fully booked.
You are also welcome to try your luck at the gates of the museum.
